Nasreddin’s Flower Garden

A young man named Nasreddin planted a flower garden, but when the flowers came up so did a great crop of dandelions among them. Wishing to eliminate the unwanted guests, Nasreddin consulted with gardeners near and far, but none of their solutions worked.
Finally, Nasreddin travelled to the palace of the sage to seek the wisdom of the royal gardener himself. But alas, Nasreddin had already tried all the methods the kind old man recommended to him for eradicating such troublesome weeds.
Silently they sat together for a good long time. At last, the royal gardener looked at Nasreddin and said, “Well, then, the only thing I can suggest is that you learn to love them.”
Meditation: And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. – 2 Corinthians 12:7-9

Last Respects

Last Respects
Author Unknown
One day, not too long ago, the employees of a large company in St. Louis, Missouri returned from their lunch break and were greeted with a sign on the front door. The sign said: “Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym.”
At first, everyone was sad to hear that one of their colleagues had died, but after a while, they started getting curious about who this person might be.
The excitement grew as the employees arrived at the gym to pay their last respects. Everyone wondered: “Who is this person who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he’s no longer here!”
One by one the employees got closer to the coffin and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood over the coffin, shocked and in silence as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul.
There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself. There was also a sign next to the mirror that said: “There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.
You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success. You are the only person who can help yourself.
Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your parents change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one responsible for your life.
“The most important relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself.”

The Gift

The Gift
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.
As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him.
He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold.
Angry, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day.
Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt. 7:11, “And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?”
As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God’s blessings because they are not packaged as we expected?

Faith of A Child

Faith of A Child
Author Unknown
The father, a well digger,
strong was he,
And as loving and kind
as a father could be.
And Mary his daughter,
Just five years old,
Was very much dearer
than millions in gold.
To Mary her father
was big, grand and nice,
So each had a treasure,
beyond any price.
One day to the well,
little Mary was sent
To take daddy’s lunch,
how gladly she went.
But when she looked down,
not a thing could be seen.
The well, like a pocket,
was dark as could be.
The father saw Mary
and heard her voice, too,
But made not a sound,
just to see what she’d do.
She dropped to her knees,
the dear little soul,
And called down, “Oh, Daddy,
are you down this hole?”
“Why, yes Mary darling,
I’m here at your feet,
Just drop my lunch
for I’m ready to eat.
Just let it go easy,
I’ll catch it all right.”
She did and she saw
it fall out of sight.
“Why Mary,” said father,
“There’s enough here for two,
Now this is the thing
I would like you to do.
You jump down here to me
and we’ll eat it together,
Down here in the cool
and away from the weather.”
“Oh, daddy, I’m afraid,
I can’t see you at all,
Be sure now you catch me
and don’t let me fall.”
‘Twas just for a moment
she wavered in doubt,
Then closing her dear
little eyes she jumped out.
In the darkness, yes,
that was the test,
She trusted in faith
At her father’s request.
And both were so happy
he kissed her and smiled
Because of the sweet
trusting faith of his child.
“Oh, sweet little Mary,
you put me to shame,
How often my Father
Has called me the same,
But because it was dark
I turned back in doubt.
Refusing the call,
though his arms were stretched out.”

Quieted With His Love

As I worked my way through some devotional readings, I came across this passage: The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17) I thought of my life. I thought of what the passage says about God and how He feels about me. He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in me. He will quiet me with his love. He will rejoice over me.
I confess that although I do not know if I fully understand what it means to be quieted by His love, I do know that there is something inside me that says, “I need that, Lord!” As I pondered more, I prayed, “Lord, please quiet me with Your love.”
“Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“Lord, I get loud sometimes. Not so much verbally loud, but my spirit gets loud. My heart gets loud. My mind gets loud. The world around me gets loud and the loudness overwhelms me to the point that everything within me and around me seems to be loud. So, Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In these times of unrest and confusion in our nation and world, I need to be quieted by your love, dear Lord. Decisions are being made that may well change the way we live and function as a people. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“As the years pass more rapidly than my mind can comprehend, I need to be quieted with Your love. I cannot keep up. I try, but I seem to fall farther and farther behind. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In times when I fear for my very life and for the lives of my family and friends, I need to be quieted by Your love. In times when my spirit is under attack by the Enemy to such an extent that I begin to wonder if You are still there, I need to be quieted by Your love. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In times of discouragement when I have failed to live like You have asked me to live, I need to be quieted by Your love. In times of disappointment over dreams that have faded and when other people have failed to live up to my expectations, I need to be quieted by Your love. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In times of loss and my heart has been broken, I need to be quieted by your love. In times of sadness when a joyful spirit seems too much to consider, I need to be quieted by Your love. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In times of suffering and pain as the result of another’s actions or my own, I need to be quieted by Your love. In times when others are suffering because of my actions and I am helpless to undo what I have done, I need to be quieted by Your love. And they need to be quieted by Your love. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“In times of distress and anxiety over all that I must do, or feel that I must do, I need to be quieted by Your love. In times when life is so loud that I cannot hear my own thoughts, I need to be quieted by Your love. Lord, please quiet me with Your love.
“Unless You quiet me with Your love, dear Lord, my life will surely be filled with noises that may drown Your voice from my ears. Lord, I need to be quieted by Your love.
“When I remind myself that You are with me, when I contemplate Your power, when I consider that You take great delight in me and when I think of You rejoicing over me with singing because of Your love for me, I am quieted. My heart is quieted. My spirit rests.
“Lord, You have quieted me with Your love.”

Puzzles

I was given a puzzle a couple of months ago from a friend of mine; it had 1,500 pieces. I haven’t put together a puzzle since I was a kid. Isn’t it funny how we stop doing certain things when we grow up: puzzles, coloring, playing dolls, hop scotch, hide and go seek. Things that brought us so much joy as a child, we stop doing when we reach a certain age – it’s a shame, isn’t it?
I must admit, I really enjoyed the puzzle. Although very frustrating at times, it was a challenge. Each time I found a piece that fit, it was extremely rewarding.
Have you ever realized how many similarities there are between puzzles and life? In a puzzle each piece plays such an important part in the big picture. In life, it’s people and events who play the important parts. As with pieces in a puzzle, each of us are unique, special in our own way. Although we may appear similar, there are no two alike. Ironically it’s our differences that make us fit.
While I was working on this puzzle, there was one piece that I was sure belonged in this particular spot. But it didn’t fit. I just kept going back to it and trying to make it fit, forgetting that I tried it already. I guess I had my mind set on the fact that I felt it belonged there.
I thought about how many times I’ve done that in my life. Tried to make things happen that just weren’t meant to be. I’d try over and over again even to the point of forcing it – but it wasn’t meant to be… and nothing I did changed that.
If you do many puzzles, you’ll know what it’s like to spend so much time looking for one specific piece. I thought I knew what it looked like, it seemed so obvious… but I couldn’t find it. I got so wrapped up into finding that one piece that I couldn’t see beyond it. I got frustrated and decided to let it go and step away from it for a while. When I came back to it later, I found it immediately. It was right in front of me all along.
Life has been like that for me sometimes. I try so hard to understand why things happen the way they do. I search high and low for the answers and sometimes the answers are right in front of me. It isn’t until I stop, take a step back, breathe and let it go – that the answers find me.
As I sat there looking at the pieces in this puzzle, I started thinking about the “pieces” in my life: my family, my friends, events, milestones and celebrations. There’s such a mixture of good and bad, joy and tears, happiness and sorrow.
I thought about all those pieces that I didn’t feel were important or had purpose. I reflected on all those pieces in my life that caused me to ask why… “Why me, God?”… “Why this?” I suddenly realized that it was because of those pieces that other pieces were able to fall into place.
Everything in our lives happens for a reason. Each event, whether good or bad, signifies a piece of the puzzle. You take away one piece and it upsets the entire harmony of the finished product. I finally understand that even though some of the pieces in my life aren’t pleasant and many of them bring me pain and heartache, without them I couldn’t move on. No matter how unimportant I think they are, they bring me one step closer to wholeness.
We can’t possibly look at the pieces of our lives right now and understand the important role that each one of them plays; there are too many holes and the picture isn’t clear. But I know that when my journey in this life comes to an end, and that final piece is put into place, I’m going to look back and understand. I’ll no longer wonder why there was so much pain, or why certain people came and went in my life. And I’ll be able to see the complete picture and the beauty that went into each piece that made it whole.
Until then, I will continue to live on in faith–knowing and trusting that all the pieces that I need are there and that it only takes a matter of time before they fall into place. Remembering that there is a big picture, a plan for me, that I’m unable to see right now. Believing that each piece of my life, even the painful ones, have a purpose and play an important role. And when I’m weak, I will seek strength through prayer. I do all this in hopes that on that glorious day when God’s masterpiece of me is finally complete, He will then whisper… “Well done.”

God Is!

God is Lord Almighty,
Omnipotent King, Lion of Judah,
Rock of Ages, Prince of Peace,
King of Kings, Lord of Lords,
Provider, Protector, Paternal,
Leader, Ruling Lord and Reigning King
Of all the universe.
He is Father, He is Helper,
He is Guardian, and He is God.
He is the First and the Last,
The beginning and the end,
He is the Keeper of Creation
and Creator of all He keeps;
The Architect of the universe
and manager of all times.
He always was, He always is,
and always will be…
unmoved, unchanged, undefeated,
and never undone.
He was bruised and brought healing.
He was pierced and eased pain.
He was persecuted and brought freedom.
He was dead and brought life.
He is risen and brings power.
He reigns and brings peace.
The world can’t understand Him,
The armies can’t defeat Him,
The schools can’t explain Him,
and leaders can’t ignore Him.
Herod couldn’t kill Him,
the Pharisees couldn’t confuse Him,
people couldn’t hold Him,
Nero couldn’t crush Him,
Hitler couldn’t silence Him,
the New Age can’t replace Him,
and the world can’t explain Him away!
He is Light, Love, Longevity and Lord.
He is goodness, Kindness, Gentleness, and God
He is Holy, Righteous, Mighty, Powerful and Pure.
His ways are right,
His word is eternal,
His will is unchanging,
and His mind is on Me!
He is my Savior,
He is my Guide,
He is my Peace,
He is my Joy,
He is my Comfort.
He is my Lord and He rules my life.
I serve Him because He is God
and is worthy to be served.
His bond is love,
His burden is light,
and His goal for me is abundant life.
I follow Him because He is
THE wisdom,
THE power of the powerful,
THE ancient of days,
THE ruler of rulers,
THE leader of leaders,
THE overseer of overcomers,
And sovereign Lord of all that was and is and is to come.
Now if that seems impressive to you, try this on for size.
His goal is a relationship with ME!
He will never leave me,
never forsake me,
never mislead me,
never forget me,
never overlook me,
and never cancel my appointment in His appointment book!
When I fall, He lifts me up.
When I fail, He forgives.
When I am weak, He is strong.
When I am lost, He is the way.
When I am afraid, He is my courage.
When I stumble, He steadies me.
When I am hurt, He heals me.
When I am broken, He mends me.
When I am blind, He leads me.
When I am hungry, He feeds me.
When I face trials, He is with me.
When I face persecution, He shields me.
When I face problems, He is the answer
When I face loss, He provides for me.
When I face death, HE carries me Home!
He is everything for everybody,
everywhere, every time, and every way.
He is God, He is faithful and true,
I am His and He is mine.
My Father in Heaven has already defeated the father of this world,
and so if you’re asking why I stand and feel so secure, understand this;
He said it, and that settles it.
God is in control,
I am on his side,
and that means all is well with my soul.
Every day is a blessing for… GOD IS!
